tear sheet: These are pages from magazines and other publications that show a model at work.  Since tear sheets indicate experience they are essential credentials.

testing:  Testing is the term used for a photographic session to produce pictures for your portfolio and composite.

go-sees / audition / interview: A job interview with a photographer or a client.

casting: A casting is an interview for a television commercial.

callback: This is a second audition for a job.

head shot: A close up photograph of a model’s head and face.

a shoot: Time spent in a studio or on location with a photographer or camera crew for an assignment.

on location: This is where the shoot takes place.  It can be a place you know well or an exotic spot on the other side of the world.  If you are working for a client, this is your opportunity to travel, with all expenses paid including your model fee.

voucher / invoice: A voucher or invoice is a payment contract between you and the client. It is essential that you fill these out correctly with all information printed neatly.  You give the client a copy, your agency a copy, and retain a copy for your records.  Never allow a photographer or client to add any conditions to the voucher or delete any reference to reproduction rights.  Always call the agency if you have any questions.
